Normal role description: | Subunit of the eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3) complex, which is essential for protein synthesis initiation. Phosphorylation of EIF3F by CDK11p46 is implicated in transcription inhibition and apoptosis. Low expression levels and loss of heterozygosity found in pancreatic cancers and melanoma. Restoration of expression was associated with increased apoptosis and decreased cell proliferation. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | No mutations have been reported on the Atlas of Genetics in Oncology. Only one mutated sample described in the SANGER COSMIC database. |
