Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: E2F3
Gene Name: E2F3
Protein Full Name: Transcription factor E2F3
Alias: E2F-3; KIAA0075
Mass (Da): 49162
Number AA: 465
UniProt ID: O00716
Locus ID: 1871
COSMIC ID: E2F3
Gene location on chromosome: 6p22.3
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 20026
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.34
Found in amplified chromosomal regions in human cancers: bladder, prostate
Normal role description: MYC induces expression of the E2F gene and this ultimately plays a role in the G1/S transition. Loss of function of the E2F gene may impair the ability of the cell to replicate. E2F has also been shown to interact with the RB1 gene and, through CIP1, removes the RB1 block of cell cycle progression.
