Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: BAI1
Gene Name: BAI1
Protein Full Name: Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1
Alias: Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1
Mass (Da): 173514
Number AA: 1584
UniProt ID: O14514
Locus ID: 575
COSMIC ID: BAI1
Gene location on chromosome: 8q24.3
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 20196
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.38
Normal role description: BAl1 is a G-protein coupled receptor. It binds phosphotidylserine and triggers engulment of apoptotic cells. Similar to BAI2 and BAI3, it is a negative regulator of angiogenesis. Its is regulated by p53. Reduced in expression is correlated with progression of glioblastomas.
