Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PTPRT
Gene Name: PTPRT
Protein Full Name: Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase T
Alias: EC 3.1.3.48; KIAA0283; Protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, T; Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase T; RPTPrho; RPTP-rho; R-PTP-T
Mass (Da): 164346
Number AA: 1463
UniProt ID: O14522
Locus ID: 11122
COSMIC ID: PTPRT
Gene location on chromosome: 20q12-q13
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19907
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 3.03
Normal role description: PTPRT is a receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase expressed primarily in the CNS. PTPRT contains an extracellular domain thought to function in cell adhesion and two intracellular catalytic domains. Mutations in PTPRT which reduce phosphatase activity were observed in colorectal cancers which indicate a tumour suppressor role for PTPRT.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Lung; Non small cell carcinoma; TRUE (50%); (3/6); Mis-sense. Small Cell Carcinoma; TRUE (33%); (1/3); Mis-sense.
