Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: IRS4
Gene Name: IRS4
Protein Full Name: Insulin receptor substrate 4
Alias: IRS-4; PY160
Mass (Da): 133768
Number AA: 1257
UniProt ID: O14654
Locus ID: 8471
COSMIC ID: IRS4
Gene location on chromosome: Xq22.3
Cancer protein type: OP/?TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: MIXED
Number of cancer specimens: 19689
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.75
Commonly recorded point mutations: A640G (22); A640V (9)
Normal role description: IRS4 acts as an interface between multiple growth factor RTKs (IR, IGF1R, FGFR1), and a complex network of intracellular signalling molecules containing SH2 domains. Involved in the IGF1R mitogenic signalling pathway as well as AKT signalling. May acts as negative regulators of the IGFI signalling pathway by suppressing the function of IRS1 and IRS2.
