Normal role description: | PER1 plays a role in generating circadian rhythms. It influences clock function by transporting other circadian regulatory proteins into the nucleus. Its specific function is not yet known. Overexpression of PER1 was correlated with significant growth reduction of tumour cells and sensitization to DNA damage-induced apoptosis, suggesting a tumor-suppressor role. However, its mechanism of action is not understood. |
