Normal role description: | DBC1 plays a role in inhibiting cell cycle progression; specifically, inhibiting G1 to S phase transition. This protein contains a 5' CpG island that may often be a target of hypermethylation, which may result in hypermethylation-based silencing in some bladder cancers. It is also associate with colon, ovarian, and skin tumors. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Inhibits cell proliferation by negative regulation of the G1/S transition. Mediates cell death which is not of the classical apoptotic type and regulates expression of components of the plasminogen pathway. |
