Normal role description: Component of the Wnt-Fzd-LRP5-LRP6 complex that triggers beta-catenin signalling through inducing aggregation of receptor-ligand complexes into ribosome-sized signalsomes. Cell-surface coreceptor of Wnt/beta-catenin signalling, which plays a pivotal role in bone formation. Mutations have been implicated in many metabolic and bone-related abnormalities but also described for breast and parathyroid cancer. This is likely on the basis of disregulation of the Wnt signalling pathway.
