Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: TNFRSF6B
Gene Name: TNFRSF6B
Protein Full Name: Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member
Alias: Decoy receptor 3;Decoy receptor for Fas ligand;M68
Mass (Da): 32680
Number AA: 300
UniProt ID: O95407
Locus ID: 8771
COSMIC ID: TNFRSF6B
Gene location on chromosome: 20q13.3
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19718
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.15
Normal role description: As a competitive inhibitor for TNF-related receptors, TNFRSF6B blocks TNF signalling in the extrinsic apoptosis pathway. It is believed that many types of malignant tumors gain survival advantage by secreting TNFRSF6B which blocks tumour cell apoptosis. TNFRSF6B is overexpressed in about 60% of various malignant tumors.
