Normal role description: | AIFM1 is an oxidoreductase that plays a role in cell death and cell survival. In healthy cells it is found in the mitochondrial membrane and is essential for maintaining cell integrity via its oxidoreductase activity. Induction of apoptosis triggers release of AIFM1 and translocation to the nucleus. Promotes release and/or activation of proteins involved in apoptosis, such as caspase-7 and caspase-9, and induces DNA degredation in a caspase-independent way. |
