Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PTTG1
Gene Name: PTTG1
Protein Full Name: Securin
Alias: EAP1; ESP1-associated protein 1; HPTTG; Pituitary tumor-transforming 1; Pituitary tumor-transforming gene 1 protein; PTTG; Tumor-transforming protein 1; TUTR1
Mass (Da): 22024
Number AA: 202
UniProt ID: O95997
Locus ID: 9232
COSMIC ID: PTTG1
Gene location on chromosome: 5q35
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19718
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.15
Normal role description: PTTG inhibits separase proteolytic activity during the cell cycle until anaphase, when the sister chromatids are separated. PTTG gene is highly expressed in a variety of tumors and enhances proliferation. It regulates angiogenesis and invasion through increased expression and secretion of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2).
