Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: ICAM1
Gene Name: ICAM1
Protein Full Name: Intercellular adhesion molecule 1
Alias: BB2; CD54; ICA1; ICAM-1; Intercellular adhesion molecule 1; Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 precursor; Major group rhinovirus receptor; Rhinovirus receptor
Mass (Da): 57825
Number AA: 532
UniProt ID: P05362
Locus ID: 3383
COSMIC ID: ICAM1
Gene location on chromosome: 19p13.2
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.33
Normal role description: ICAM proteins are ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 (integrin alpha-L/beta-2). During leukocyte trans-endothelial migration, ICAM1 engagement promotes the assembly of endothelial apical cups through ARHGEF26/SGEF and RHOG activation. In case of rhinovirus infection acts as a cellular receptor for the virus. Deregulation in this gene is associated with numerous neoplasms.
