Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PSAP
Gene Name: PSAP
Protein Full Name: Proactivator polypeptide
Alias: Protein A;Cerebroside sulfate activator;Dispersin;Sphingolipid activator protein 1;Sulfatide/GM1 activator;A1 activator;Co-beta-glucosidase;Glucosylceramidase activator;Sphingolipid activator protein 2;Component C
Mass (Da): 58113
Number AA: 524
UniProt ID: P07602
Locus ID: 5660
COSMIC ID: PSAP
Gene location on chromosome: 10q22.1
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.41
Normal role description: PSAP has two forms and each form has a different funtion. The membrane bound form is involve in sphingolipid degradation. The secreted form is involved in growth, development and maintanence of peripheral and central nervous system by inducing processes such as apoptosis and activation of AKT/MAPK signalling pathway. Overexpression is correlated with increasing cancer progression but function remains unknown.
