Normal role description: | CTSL1 is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase and plays a major role in intracellular protein catabolism, with substrates such as collagen, elastin, and α-1 protease inhibitor. It has been implicated in several pathologic processes, including myofibril necrosis in myopathies and in myocardial ischemia. It is important for homeostasis of the epidermis; regulation of the hair cycle and keratinocyte proliferation. It is over-expressed in a number of human cancers. |
