Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Normal role description: THBS1 is an adhesive glycoprotein that mediates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. It is capable of binding fibrinogen, fibronectin, laminin, heparin, type V collagen and integrins alpha-V/beta-1. It has been shown to play a role in platelet aggregation, and in the inhibition of angiogenesis, and of tumorigenesis. It may also play a role in dentinogenesis and in the maintenance of dentin and dental pulp.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: 1 pharyngeal sample (out of 4 total UAT samples) was also mutated (mis-sense)
