Normal role description: | FGF2 belongs to the fibroblast growth factor family. It is involved in many cellular processes, promotes cell proliferation, migration, survival and regulates embryonic development. It has a double function in apoptosis. May induce apoptosis through reduction of the antiapoptotic protein BCL-2. FGF2 expression is increased in a great variety of tumors (>90% in malignant gliomas) and generally associated with tumour progression, relapse and poor prognosis. |
