Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PYY
Gene Name: PYY
Protein Full Name: Peptide YY
Alias: PYY-I;Peptide tyrosine tyrosine;PYY-II
Mass (Da): 11046
Number AA: 97
UniProt ID: P10082
Locus ID: 5697
COSMIC ID: PYY
Gene location on chromosome: 17q21.1; 17q21.31
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.09
Normal role description: PYY is secreted peptide involved in inhibition of pancreatic secretions, gastric secretions and food uptake by gut epithelium. PYY is also thought to act on the hypothalamus to signal satiety. Loss of PYY expression has been observed in colon, pancreatic and breast cancer. PYY is thought to exert these effects by reducing intracellular cAMP levels to inhibit PKA mediated cell proliferation and growth.
