Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: MAP2
Gene Name: MAP2
Protein Full Name: Microtubule-associated protein
Mass (Da): 58954
Number AA: 559
UniProt ID: P11137
Locus ID: 4133
COSMIC ID: MAP2
Gene location on chromosome: 2q34-q35
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19809
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 2.26
Normal role description: The exact function of MAP2 is unknown but MAPs may stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. This protein contains many different isoforms. Disregulation of MAP2 demonstrated in many neuronal diseases but pathophysiology unclear. Disruption in MAP2 function may prevent cell cycle progression through de-stabilzation of the centromere complex.
