Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: IGF2R
Gene Name: IGF2R
Protein Full Name: Cation-independent mannose-6-phosphate receptor
Alias: 300 kDa mannose 6-phosphate receptor; Cation-independent mannose-6 phosphate receptor; Cation-independent mannose-6-phosphate receptor; CD222; CI Man-6-P receptor; CIMPR; CI-MPR; Insulin-like growth factor 2 receptor; M6P-R; MPR 300; MPR1; MPR300; MPRI
Mass (Da): 274276
Number AA: 2491
UniProt ID: P11717
Locus ID: 3482
COSMIC ID: IGF2R
Gene location on chromosome: 6q25-q27
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: TSP
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19706
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.84
Normal role description: Receptor for insulin-like growth factor-2. Also a receptor for mannose 6-phosphate. It is involved in many functions including lysosomal enzyme trafficking, activation of TGFb, fetal organogenesis, cytotoxic T cell induced apoptosis and IGF2 degradation. Reduced expression is seen in cancers and prevents production of TGFb degradation of IGF2 to inhibit cell growth.
