Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: VAV1
Gene Name: VAV1
Protein Full Name: Proto-oncogene vav
Alias: VAV; vav 1 guanine nucleotide exchange factor; Vav proto-oncogene
Mass (Da): 98314
Number AA: 845
UniProt ID: P15498
Locus ID: 7409
COSMIC ID: VAV1
Gene location on chromosome: 19p13.2

Normal role description: Member of the Dbl family of GEFs. Plays an important role in hematopoiesis, in T-cell and B-cell development and activation. Functions in various signalling cascades. Acts as GEF for Rac1, Rac2 and RhoG. Its activity is regulated by tyrosine phosphorylation. Interaction with Nef proteins from HIV-1 leads to increased VAV activity. Implictaed in neuroblastoma and pancreatic tumours.
