Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: DDX5
Gene Name: DDX5
Protein Full Name: Probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX5
Alias: DEAD (Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp) box polypeptide 5; DEAD box protein 5; DEAD-box protein 5; DEAD-box protein p68; G17P1; HELR; HLR1; P68; Probable RNA-dependent helicase p68
Mass (Da): 69148
Number AA: 614
UniProt ID: P17844
Locus ID: 1655
COSMIC ID: DDX5
Gene location on chromosome: 17q23.3

Normal role description: DDX5 is a member of the DEAD box RNA helicases. It is involved in pre-mRNA splicing by regulating splicosome assembly and splice site selection in growth related genes and translational regulation with transcription factors such as p53 and by chromatin remodeling, alterations of RNA secondary structures and ribosome assembly. In cancers its phosphorylation is correlated with metastasis.
