Normal role description: | ATF1 promotes cell proliferation and transformation. It binds to DNA sequences such as cAMP responsive element (CRE) or the Tax-responsive element (TRE) of HTLV-1 (Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1). ATF1 stimulates expression of CRE-reporter genes and suppresses expression of antioxidant detoxification genes. Phosphorylation of ATF1 by several kinases, i.a. PKA, enhances its transcriptional and transactivating activity. |
