Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: ABCB4
Gene Name: ABCB4
Protein Full Name: Multidrug resistance protein 3
Alias: ATP-binding cassette, sub-family B (MDR/TAP) member 4; EC 3.6.3.44; GBD1; MDR2; MDR3; PFIC-3; P-glycoprotein 3; PGY3
Mass (Da): 141523
Number AA: 1286
UniProt ID: P21439
Locus ID: 5244
COSMIC ID: ABCB4
Gene location on chromosome: 7q21.12
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19626
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.53
Normal role description: ABCB4 mediates ATP-dependent export of organic anions and drugs from the cytoplasm. It hydrolyzes ATP with low efficiency and mediates the translocation of phosphatidylcholine across the canalicular membrane of the hepatocyte into bile. Human MDR3 is reported to not be capable of conferring drug resistance.
