Normal role description: | CDH3 is cadherin adhesion molecule that is composed of both a transmembrane region and an extracellular region. Abnormal expression of this protein has been observed in cervical adenocarcinomas, while loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer have also be described. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Expressed in some normal epithelial tissues and in some carcinoma cell lines. Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. |
