Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: KLRK1
Gene Name: KLRK1
Protein Full Name: NKG2-D type II integral membrane protein
Alias: Killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily K member 1;NK cell receptor D;NKG2-D-activating NK receptor
Mass (Da): 25274
Number AA: 216
UniProt ID: P26718
Locus ID: 22914
COSMIC ID: KLRK1
Gene location on chromosome: 12p13.2
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.25
Normal role description: KLRK1 is a receptor on Natural killer cells. It binds MICA, MICB and U-16 proteins. It is involved in activation of NK and T cells to target stressed and virally infected cells. Downregulation by tumour secreted KLRK1 ligand promotes evasion from NK cells and T cells.
