Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Normal role description: IL3RA along with IL3RBeta form the IL3Receptor complex localized to the plasma membrane and is involved in IL3 binding and signalling. IL3 is a secreted cytokine involved in the development of hematopoietic cells into erythrocyte, leukocyte and lymphocyte lineages. Elevated expression of IL3RA has been observed in cases of acute myeloid leukemia, B lymphoid leukemia and hairy cell leukemia and may have a role in promoting cell growth and proliferation in cancer.
