Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: SERPINB3
Gene Name: SERPINB3
Protein Full Name: Serpin B3
Alias: SCC; SCCA; SCCA1; SCCA-1; SCCA-PD; SPB3; Squamous cell carcinoma antigen 1; T4-A
Mass (Da): 44565
Number AA: 390
UniProt ID: P29508
Locus ID: 6317
COSMIC ID: SERPINB3
Gene location on chromosome: 18q21.3
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: GAIN
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19717
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.89
Normal role description: SERPINB3 is a serine and cysteine protease inhibitor. It has been found to regulate apoptosis and immune response. Cancer cells expressing SERPINB3 were found to be resistant to apoptosis induced by anti-cancer drugs and TNFa induced apoptosis. It was also found associated with changes in cell morphology and cell migration in cancer cells.
