Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: NKTR
Gene Name: NKTR
Protein Full Name: NK-tumor recognition protein
Alias: Natural killer triggering receptor; Natural killer-tumor recognition sequence; Natural-killer cells cyclophilin-related protein; NK-TR protein; P104
Mass (Da): 165677
Number AA: 1462
UniProt ID: P30414
Locus ID: 4820
COSMIC ID: NKTR
Gene location on chromosome: 3p22.1
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.89
Normal role description: NKTR is a membrane-anchored protein present on the surface of natural killer cells and functions to facilitate the binding to their targets. It is also involved in protein folding and is very important for the killing of tumour cells by NK cells. Its expression is regulated by IL-2 activation of the NK cell.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Only 2 ovarian- and mouth cancer samples, and 1 skin cancer sample included in Sanger COSMIC
