Normal role description: | Chromatin binding protein, that is a component of the MCM complex in DNA replication initiation. The MCM complex also serves as helicase. MCM5, MCM3 and MCM2 negatively regulate the active MCM core subunits. MCM5 may actively regulate cell cycle control. Co-localizes with RNA polymerase II, on chromatin of genes being constitutively transcribed, and is required for transcription elongation of RNA Pol II. Overexpression in human cancers. |
