Normal role description: | Metabolic enzyme. Catalyzes the N-methylation of nicotinamide and other pyridines to form pyridinium ions. This activity is important for biotransformation of many drugs and xenobiotic compounds. Implicated in the folate pathway. Upregulated in many tumour cell lines, likely related to increased metabolic demands of cancer cells. Of note, certain tumors that metastasize will downregulate this gene. |
