Normal role description: | Interacts with a variety of proteins via its WW domain. Is a key endpoint of the Hippo signalling pathway. The YAP1 protein targets have a variety of different roles both promoting and inhibiting oncogenesis. Protein targets include YES, p73, AKT, ABL1 SMAD7, and others. Empirically, overexpression of human YAP1 in nontransformed mammary epithelial cells induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, suppression of apoptosis, growth factor-independent proliferation, and anchorage-independent growth. This is likely relevant in cancers harboring the 11q22 amplicon. Conversely activation of p73-dependent apoptosis via YAP1 will suppress tumour growth. |
