Normal role description: | NOV is small secreted cysteine-rich regulatory protein associated with the extracellular matrix and plays an important role in cell growth regulation and in the development of the cardiovascular and skeletal system, fibrosis and cancer. The gene was first identified in myeloblastosis-associated virus-1-induced avian nephroblastoma and later found to have sequence homologous expressed in normal human hematopoietic cells and in nephroblastoma. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | 1/101 kidney samples was also mutated (Sanger COSMIC) |
