Normal role description: | Protease - Serine. May catalyze the degradation of intercellular cohesive structures in the cornified layer of the skin in the continuous shedding of cells from the skin surface. Also KLK7 degrades the ECM and contibutes to the formation of normal epithelium in many different organs. Normal function regulated by hormones (estrogen, progesterone, cortisol). Most cancer systems demonstrate upregulation of KLK7 in tumour compared to normal adjacent tissue although some systems have demonstrate downregulation. May contribute to locally invasive properties of malignant cells. |
