Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Alias: hK7
Mass (Da): 27507
Number AA: 253
UniProt ID: P49862
Locus ID: 5650
COSMIC ID: KLK7

Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.34
Normal role description: Protease - Serine. May catalyze the degradation of intercellular cohesive structures in the cornified layer of the skin in the continuous shedding of cells from the skin surface. Also KLK7 degrades the ECM and contibutes to the formation of normal epithelium in many different organs. Normal function regulated by hormones (estrogen, progesterone, cortisol). Most cancer systems demonstrate upregulation of KLK7 in tumour compared to normal adjacent tissue although some systems have demonstrate downregulation. May contribute to locally invasive properties of malignant cells.
