Normal role description: | TNFSF10 is a cytokine belonging to the TNF ligand family. It preferentially induces apoptosis in transformed and tumour cells, but not normal cells although it is expressed at a significant level in most normal tissues. The protein is able to bind several members of the TNF-R superfamily including TNFRSF10A/B/C/D, and possibly also TNFRSF11B. Ligand binding to any of these receptors has been shown to trigger the activation of MAPK8/JNK, caspase 8, and caspase 3. TNFSF10 has been shown to be overexpressed in B-CLL peripheral blood mononuclear cells in comparison to normal B-cells, but B-CLL cells have been shown to be resistant to TNFSF10 -mediated apoptosis. |
