Normal role description: DAPK1 is a protein-serine/threonine kinase which mediates apoptosis in response to gamma-interferon. DAPK1 role in apoptosis is the formation of autophagic vesicles and membrane blebbing. DAPK1 functions as a tumour suppressor protein in cancer and inhibition of its activity through hypermethylation or deletions can result in cancer development. Mutations which prevent DAPK1 interaction with substratres such as ERK can also prevent DAPK1 mediated apoptosis.
