Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PTTG1IP
Gene Name: PTTG1IP
Protein Full Name: Pituitary tumor-transforming gene 1 protein-intera
Alias: C21orf1; C21orf3; PBF; pituitary tumor-transforming 1 interacting protein; pituitary tumor-transforming gene 1 protein-interacting protein; pituitary tumor-transforming gene protein binding factor; PTTG; PTTG-binding factor
Mass (Da): 20324
Number AA: 180
UniProt ID: P53801
Locus ID: 754
COSMIC ID: PTTG1IP
Gene location on chromosome: 21q22.3
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: GAIN
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19628
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.14
Normal role description: PTTG1P directly binds to pituitary tumor-transforming gene 1 protein (PTTG1). This interaction facilitates the nuclear translocation of PTTG1 and increases the transcriptional activation of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) by PTTG1. Upregulation of PTTG1P has been found in thyroid and pituitary tumors.
