Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: BLCAP
Gene Name: BLCAP
Protein Full Name: Bladder cancer-associated protein
Alias: Bladder cancer 10 kDa protein
Mass (Da): 9876
Number AA: 87
UniProt ID: P62952
Locus ID: 10904
COSMIC ID: BLCAP
Gene location on chromosome: 20q11.23
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: LOSS
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 19603
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.09
Normal role description: BLCAP induces apoptosis, S-phase arrest, and decreased cell proliferation. Growth inhibition was correlated with up-regulation of p21 (WAF1/CIP1 ) expression and down-regulation of Bcl-XL and Bcl-2 expressions. Downregulation has been empirically demonstrated in bladder cancer systems as well as other tumors.
