Normal role description: The major protein component of the cytoplasmic face of intracellular organelles (coated vesicles, coated pits) is Clathrin. It is involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis and intracellular trafficking and consists of three heavy and three light chains. Two different adaptor protein complexes link clathrin to the trans-Golgi network or plasma membrane.
