Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: DST
Gene Name: DST
Protein Full Name: Dystonin
Mass (Da): 624997
Number AA: 5457
UniProt ID: Q03001
Locus ID: 667
COSMIC ID: DST
Gene location on chromosome: 6p12.1
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19831
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 1.63
Normal role description: Acts as an integrator of intermediate filaments, actin and microtubule cytoskeleton networks. Required for anchoring either intermediate filaments to the actin cytoskeleton in neural and muscle cells or keratin-containing intermediate filaments to hemidesmosomes in epithelial cell (UniProt). Mice defective for this gene show skin blistering and neurodegeneration. Role in oncogenesis unclear - may function to regulate metastatic potential.
