Number of cancer specimens: 19718
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.42
Normal role description: Transcription factor that is activated by binding of ligands, such as peroxisome proliferators (hypolipidemic drugs and fatty acids). Activated PPARD binds to promotor regions of target genes. Regulates the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway of fatty acids. PPARD is highly expressed in the gastrointestinal tract in a constitutive manner where it regulates cell proliferation and differentiation. Wnt/beta-catenin stimulates PPARD expression and COX2 pathway results in activation of PPARD via PI3K-Akt pathway. Overexpression is associated with colon cancers.
