Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: TBX2
Gene Name: TBX2
Protein Full Name: T-box transcription factor TBX2
Alias: T-box 2; T-box protein 2
Mass (Da): 74068
Number AA: 702
UniProt ID: Q13207
Locus ID: 6909
COSMIC ID: TBX2
Gene location on chromosome: 17q23
Cancer protein type: OP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: PROMOTES
Number of cancer specimens: 19718
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.42
Normal role description: Transcription factor upregulated in different cancer systems. Has been demonstrated to inhibit the expression of CDKN1A. TBX2 is shown to repress the CDKN2A promoter and also attenuate the induction of CDKN2A by E2F1, MYC, and HRAS, providing senescence bypass. Therefore, overexpression TBX2 confers imortality to cells and promotes tumour progression.
