Normal role description: | PTK6 is a protein-tyrosine kinase. It is a cytoplasmic nonreceptor protein-kinase that seems to function as an intracellular signal transducer in epithelial tissues. Upregulation of this gene in mammary epithelium causes sensitization to epidermal growth factor (EGF) and results in a partially transformed phenotype. Upregulation of this gene has been found in some breast cancers, while mutation in this gene have been found in skin, ovairan, and gastric tumors. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Phosphorylates KHDRBS1, KHDRBS2, KHDRBS3 and STAP2/BKS. May function as an intracellular signal transducer in epithelial tissues. Overexpression in mammary cells leads to mitogenically sensitization to EGF, and results in a partially transformed phenotype. Its presence in the nucleus appears to be linked to suppression of tumor progression. |
