Normal role description: KLF5 is a transcription factor that bindes GC box promoter elements and induces transcription. KLF5 is known to upregulate cdk inhibitor p21(waf1/cip1) and the pro-apoptotic protein, BAX, after UV irradiation. Downregulation of this gene is associated with intestinal and colon cancer, as well as it complete absence (due to deletion) in bladder and breast cancers.
