Normal role description: | HNRNPD is a nuclear ribonucleoprotein and transcription factor involved in the regulation of apoptosis, tumorigenesis, and development. It can bind both ssDNA and RNA, especially transcripts bearing AREs in their 3' UTR, and its over-expression strongly influences the stability of these mRNAs. The gene appears to increase the degradation of target mRNAs, especially mRNAs encoding mitogenic, immune- and cancer-associated, stress response-, and cell cycle regulatory proteins such as c-fos, c-jun, c-myc, interleukins, iNOS, p21, MnSOD, cyclin D1, and cdc25 to name a few. It has been found to be over-expressed in various cancers. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | The gene is also over-expressed in sarcomas |
