Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: RASA3
Gene Name: RASA3
Protein Full Name: Ras GTPase-activating protein 3
Alias: GAP1(IP4BP); GAP1IP4BP; GAPIII; Ins P4-binding protein; RAS p21 protein activator 3
Mass (Da): 95699
Number AA: 834
UniProt ID: Q14644
Locus ID: 22821
COSMIC ID: RASA3
Gene location on chromosome: 13q34
Cancer protein type: TSP
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: INHIBITS
Number of cancer specimens: 20173
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.75
Normal role description: Inhibitory regulator of the Ras-cyclic AMP pathway. Binds inositol tetrakisphosphate (IP4) with high affinity. Stimulates the GTPase activity of normal RAS p21 but not its oncogenic counterpart. May therefore function as an inhibitor of Ras pathway oncogenesis except if oncogenesis is directly driven by Ras protein mutations or constituent activation occurs in downstream targets.
