Normal role description: | RBBP7 is a nuclear localized protein shown to bind and interact with histone proteins. RBBP7 contains many WD40 repeat domains which contributes to its function as an adapter protein. RBBP7 was found to be a component of many chromatin modifying complexes including histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complex, histone deacetytransferase (HDAC) complex and nucleosome remodelling complex. RBBP7 may work to target these complexes to nucleosomes to facilitate their function in promoting or repressing transcription of genes. RBBP7 appears to have mixed function in the development of cancer. Overexpression of RBBP7 has been observed to promote the development of leukemias while inhibiting the development of breast cancer. This mixed function may be a result of its predisposition to associate with a multitude of different complexes which may result in different function within tumour types. |
