Normal role description: MIA3 is a transmembrane protein on the ER that is required specifically for collagen VII secretion. It does not appear to play a role in global protein secretion. Although its function in cancer is unknown, induced MIA3 expression resulted in significantly decreased cell motility and invasive potential while knockdown of MIA3 promoted cell invasion and migration in vitro.
