Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Gene Name: ZNF318
Protein Full Name: Zinc finger protein 318
Alias: HRIHFB2436
Mass (Da): 251112
Number AA: 2279
UniProt ID: Q5VUA4
Locus ID: 7705
COSMIC ID: ZNF318
Gene location on chromosome: 6pter-p12.1

Normal role description: ZNF318 is a zinc-finger domain containing protein which binds DNA. This protein has been found to interact with the nuclear androgen receptor and act as repressor of its activity. Mutations of ZNF318 have been detected in breast cancers, however their functional effect is not well characterized.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: No entry in Atlasgeneticsoncology.org. Less than 3% mutation in CNS.
