Normal role description: | MUC17 is a membrane glycoprotein with highly conserved homology through species. It is expressed on intestinal mucosal surfaces and upregulated in response to NF-kB signalling. Similarly, MUC17 is aberrantly expressed in pancreatic adenocarcinomas as compared to no expression in the normal pancreas or benign pancreatitis. Mechanism of oncogenesis unclear - may reflect loss of differentiation or phenotypic transformation of certain tumour cells. |
