Cancer Protein Description

This report provides a detailed description of a selected cancer protein with information collected from various sources, including UniProt, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC), and the Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology.

Protein Name: PID1
Gene Name: PID1
Protein Full Name: PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting prote
Alias: FLJ20701; NYGGF4; P-CLI1; Phosphotyrosine interaction domain containing 1; Phosphotyrosine interaction domain-containing protein 1; PID1; Protein NYGGF4; PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting; PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting protein: Phosphotyrosine interaction domain-containing protein 1: Protein NYGGF4: PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting protein: Phosphotyrosine interaction domain-containing protein 1: Protein NYGGF4: PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting protein: Phosphotyrosine interaction domain-containing protein 1: Protein NYGGF4: PTB-containing, cubilin and LRP1-interacting protein: Phosphotyrosine interaction domain-containing protein 1: Protein NYGGF4
Mass (Da): 28272
Number AA: 250
UniProt ID: Q7Z2X4
Locus ID: 55022
COSMIC ID: PID1
Gene location on chromosome: 2q36.3
Cancer protein type: UNCLEAR
Effect of cancer mutation on protein: UNCLEAR
Effect of active protein on cancer: UNCLEAR
Number of cancer specimens: 19625
Percent of cancer specimens with mutations: 0.48
Normal role description: PID1's function in not well characterized. When it is ectopically expressed, it causes an increase in preadipocyte 3T3-L1 cell proliferation, an increase in S-phase cells, and induction of lipid droplets. Its role in oncogenesis in unclear, though mutations in this gene have been found breast cancer.
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: Increases proliferation of preadipocytes without affecting adipocytic differentiation.
