Normal role description: | PID1's function in not well characterized. When it is ectopically expressed, it causes an increase in preadipocyte 3T3-L1 cell proliferation, an increase in S-phase cells, and induction of lipid droplets. Its role in oncogenesis in unclear, though mutations in this gene have been found breast cancer. |
Commentary on involvement of protein in cancer: | Increases proliferation of preadipocytes without affecting adipocytic differentiation. |
